ASU/Phoenix Union High School District (PUHSD) High School College Initiative

ASU supports the establishment of the Phoenix Union High School District (PUHSD)/Arizona State University College-Going Program with the mission of transforming the PUHSD from a high school graduation district to a college-going district through the following efforts:
ASU will provide a dedicated staff member as Director of the program and program activities.
ASU will coordinate programmatic efforts and educational initiatives to promote a culture in support of college-going expectations on the part of students.
ASU will coordinate services and compile resources to assist District counselors with college-going advisement.
ASU will strengthen existing and assist in developing new partnerships through the Phoenix Union Educational Foundation to support college-going endeavors for District students.
ASU will assist in the District organizational transformation from a high school graduation district to a college-going district.
In support of the collaboration ASU will provide the District:
Membership in the English Language Learners Community of Practice - a forum in which university and district language acquisition experts share model programs, provide joint professional development, discuss mandates, produce educational briefs and assist in developing public policy for the state's 160,000 English language learners.
Learning Forever Professional Development workshops for District educators.
ALPHA Student Teacher Incentive Program - ASU provides $1000 stipend to ASU student teachers who elect to do their student teaching in the District.
AmeriCorps Student Teacher Incentive Program - A Federal program which provides student teachers up to a $2000 service award for conducting coursework in the District.
Learners for Learning - ASU is planning the design and implementation of a comprehensive Administrative Training Institute for novice principals and aspiring administrators with the District as a model for future investment by ASU.
ASYouth - a youth student enrichment program available to students in the District to provide access to 43 programs in 13 Colleges at ASU.
Science Is Fun - ASU will provide on-site scientific discovery to K-12 classrooms in the District through engaging and interactive science demonstrations at the local school sites.
ASU will provide the following Office of Youth Preparation programs at the District school sites upon request: AIMS Prep, Biodesign Connect, College Is for You, Junior Law & Court Works, and the Young Writers Program.
ASU will collaborate with the District to create and provide Masters Degree Cohort Programs in close proximity to the District.
ASU will provide assistance with grant applications and access to experts in relevant areas of subject speciality and need.
District students will participate in a variety of athletic, cultural and fine arts events at reduced or no cost.
